MEET ONIGIRI

So, who is Onigiri?

Ongiri is actually Smudge.

Read Below for Smudge's Story

SMUDGE's Story

Onigiri was designed after Smudge. He was born a street ruffian (j/k, sort of). Abandoned at just a few weeks, he was found and saved by Kelly! We didn’t know her at the time, but she’s now a friend. She couldn’t keep him, so we took him in. We weren’t sure how that would play out since huskies are known for their prey drive. We watched all interactions very closely and found Kako mothering Smudge by flea biting him/nibbling him to groom and bond.

Smudge's One Ear is Weird

You might notice in some older pictures that Smudge's one ear looks different. A couple years back, he had a strange growth on his ear. I let the vet know and watched it for a while. I didn't like the look of it, neither did our vet. So, he remove it with clean margins and had it biopsied. It came back positive for skin cancer. We haven't had any issues since, but he's monitored.

Smudge Loves Chips!

Open a bag of chips, crinkle the package, and Smudge comes running! He loves almost every chips. The only chip I've seen him turn down is Mustard Doritos. His favorite might saltines. He has chosen chips over meat! He loves them so much that...

Smudge is Too Smart!

Baby locks on

Baby locks on cabinets. A reorganized pantry. An engineered lock for the garbage. Opening doors? No problem! If this cat wants something, he stops at nothing to get it! We needed to install a baby lock on the snack cabinet in our kitchen because Smudge would open it and steal chips constantly. Not that the lock stop him. If he knows there's a particular chip he wants, he can still open the cabinet and snake the prize! The garbage was basically the same thing. We have a hidden, pull out garbage that now has a locking system created to try and keep Smudge out. He also constantly opens the basement door when I'm downstairs if he's decided he wants to hang out with me.

Smudge had a Girlfriend

Her name is Regina, and she's a stuffed cat he used to carry around. She even came to visit him when he was in the Vet ER for urinary crystals/urinary blockage. Since that time, however, she's been tucked away. Occasionally, we bring her out, but he doesn't have the same interest as he once had.

Smudge is a polite older brother

After Kako passed away, we ended up fostering a pair of very young kittens - Ginny and Hermione. Ginny and Hermoine joined our list of foster fails (this means we adopted them). We're pretty sure Ginny and Hermione taught Smudge how to "cat" while he taught them how to "dog." The kittens love to steal his food, and Smudge allows them. When it's play time, he rarely joins in, letting them play alone. He prefers play-time without them.

CHECK BACK!

I'LL ADD MORE IN THE FUTURE
